Anthologized Online

"They Will Take My Island" by Arshile Gorky, 1944

If you didn’t know, Paul Vermeersch has started a project/experiment in producing an online anthology of poetry. The idea is that poets contribute to the blog by writing pieces that begin with the same title, “They Will Take My Island.” The theme, taken from the name of a painting by Arshile Gorky, I think leaves quite a bit of space with which poets can work; in my own case, I think of the connections I have to the island of Newfoundland.

It’s quite a brilliant idea and one I support wholeheartedly. I’ve been asked to contribute a poem to the project and you can check that out on the blog here. Feel free to browse the other entries as there are some great pieces in there by such poets as David Seymour, David McGimpsey, George Murray, and Jacob McArthur Mooney. The idea of a living, evolving anthology that grows over time is fascinating and one I think will prove worthwhile to follow.
