Ok, so this is my first post in this poetry blog. I hope to post semi-regularly about writing, reading, literature, and the arts in general. I hope you will come with my on this literary journ(al)(ey).
I think the best way to do this is to start with what’s I’m currently reading. I usually read three to five books at a time and go slowly through each, giving me a chance to really savour their flavour and texture. I’m currently reading the following:
- Mark Strand’s The Late Hour
- The Collected Poems of Theodore Roethke
- Ross Leckie’s Gravity’s Plumb Line
- Carmine Starnino’s Credo
- Alden Nowlan Selected Poems
- E. E. Cummings 100 Selected Poems
In addition to these books of poetry I’m also reading The Templars and the Grail: Knights of the Quest by Karen Ralls. This is an excellent book thus far tracing the history and structure of the Order of the Knights of the Temple of Solomon. And, finally, I’m reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. My fiancee is a big fan and always has been and has, of late, gotten me into Austen as well. I’ve seen the movie forms of this book and enjoyed them, but thus far am enjoying the book more.
I tend to find I read more while on computer or in the bathroom. This is the case at the moment. Some people read in studies (I don’t currently have one), others read in living rooms, bedrooms, etc. This happens to be what works best for me at the moment and may change in the future.
Anyway, that’s it for entry #1. Let’s see where we go from here.
