The provincial government of British Columbia are offering free textbooks for post secondary students online. We know how expensive learning resources can be for those attending college or university and I think this is a great move to benefit students and relieve some of the financial stress they feel each semester.
This kind of change is not going to be cheap and may cost as much as a million dollars a year to cover the costs of books for the 40 commonly taken courses. To my mind though, an investment in education is an investment in the economy and a benefit on cultural levels as well. It shows foresight on the part of the government and I applaud it.
