I’ve recently been in contact with Nigel McLoughlin, the managing editor of Iota, a quarterly poetry magazine based out of the University of Gloucestershire. A poem of mine has appeared here before and I’m quite delighted to have two more appearing in the next issue. Both of these poems are a part of the manuscript I’ve been working on over the last year or so, entitled Preservations. The publication credits are building up.
Also, I’m not sure if I posted an update on this or not, but my first book, the above mentioned manuscript, will be published in Fall 2009 by Nightwood Editions in B.C. I’m excited about it and look forward to the entire process. Be sure that come next year you keep an eye on bookshelves near you. Of course, with the use of Amazon and other online sources you need never leave home to enjoy.
Just a quick note to mention that in between the insanity of NaNoWriMo (yes, I’m actually attempting it this year) I’ve been published in the first issue of The Toronto Quarterly. The poem is one from the series I wrote earlier this year for my then wife-to-be. The poem is called “Signing the Guestbook”. You can click the link, buy the magazine and check out the poem, because isn’t that what you want to do? Thought so.
On Thursday night I was part of a reading at the Irving West hotel in Gander. It was a quiet evening with a combination of readings and musical performances. The readers consisted of local writers from the Gander Writer’s Group and music by Ken Raymond, Juan O’Quinn and a couple others. Philip Patey, the Central representative for the Writer’s Alliance of NL was also there to lend a reading. I got the opportunity to chat with him briefly at the first intermission before I had to step out. We had a conversation about his experience working with Lorna Crozier in a workshop some years ago. Lorna Crozier is one of my favourite poets and was quite pleased to hear his story.
A friend of mine came along, as did my wife, to show support (the former brought along some of his photography equipment and took a couple of pictures. You can see one of them in my author profile for this blog). Here’s a video of one of the poems from the reading:
